Exalted Flesh

+20% Physical Damage for 60 Seconds — Melee DPS Essential
★★★☆☆ Moderate Type: Consumable Buff Stack: 99

🥩 Why Exalted Flesh Matters

The Exalted Flesh stands as one of Elden Ring's most reliable physical damage consumables. This marinated meat dish grants a flat +20% bonus to all physical damage for a full 60 seconds, applying to every physical damage type: Standard, Strike, Slash, and Pierce. For melee-focused builds — whether you wield colossal greatswords, dual curved swords, or bloodhound claws — this buff represents a significant damage spike that can turn challenging encounters into manageable ones.

Unlike weapon buffs tied to specific stats or infusions, Exalted Flesh is universal. It stacks with weapon buffs like Bloodflame Blade or Lightning Slash, with talismans like Ritual Pot Talisman or Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, and with other conditional damage boosts. A well-prepared melee character entering a boss arena can layer Exalted Flesh on top of weapon grease, spell buffs, and talisman effects for a devastating opening salvo that shreds through health bars.

When to Use Exalted Flesh

  • Boss Fight Openers: Pop immediately upon entering a boss arena. The 60-second window covers most boss phases, and the 20% boost significantly speeds up the fight.
  • Invasions (PvP): As a Bloody Finger invading other worlds, Exalted Flesh gives you a decisive edge in the opening exchange. Every hit hurts 20% more.
  • High-HP Enemies: Against tanky knight-class enemies, trolls, or giant variants, the sustained 20% boost shaves significant time off each encounter.
  • DPS-Check Bosses: Fights like Malenia where you need to phase her quickly before her Waterfowl Dance — every percentage point of damage matters.

Comparison with Other Physical Buffs

  • vs. Fire Grease: Fire Grease adds flat fire damage but splits your damage type. Exalted Flesh boosts your existing physical AR directly — better for pure physical builds.
  • vs. Rallying Standard: The Commander's Standard weapon skill gives +20% all damage but requires equipping a specific weapon. Exalted Flesh requires no equipment slot commitment.
  • vs. Seppuku: Seppuku is the gold standard for bleed builds but costs HP and requires bleed-infused weapons. Exalted Flesh has no downside and works with any weapon.

🧪 Crafting Recipe

The Exalted Flesh recipe requires exactly three materials. Arteria Leaf is the rarest component requiring targeted farming, Rowa Fruit is abundant everywhere, and Lump of Flesh drops from specific large mammal enemies. The recipe produces a single Exalted Flesh per craft — making it more expensive per-use than the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, but the damage buff justifies the cost for serious encounters.

MaterialQuantityRarityFarmable
🍃 Arteria Leaf 1x Rare (Targeted Farm) ✅ Yes — Specific plant nodes
🍎 Rowa Fruit 1x Very Common ✅ Yes — Bushes everywhere
🥩 Lump of Flesh 1x Medium (Enemy Drop) ✅ Yes — Large mammal enemies

Yield

Each crafting attempt produces 1x Exalted Flesh. This 1:1 material-to-product ratio makes Exalted Flesh relatively expensive compared to consumables that yield multiple per craft. Budget your Arteria Leaves carefully — save Exalted Flesh for boss fights, invasions, and tough elite encounters rather than routine exploration.

⚠️ Recipe Key Notes

  • You get exactly 1 per craft — no way to increase yield.
  • Stacks with weapon buffs — use alongside greases, spells, and talismans for maximum damage.
  • Buff is lost on death — pop it after entering the boss fog gate if unsure.
  • Does not stack with itself — using two refreshes the timer, does not give +40%.
  • Only affects physical damage types — magic, fire, lightning, and holy damage are unaffected.

📖 Required Cookbook: Armorer's Cookbook [6]

To unlock the Exalted Flesh recipe, you must acquire Armorer's Cookbook [6]. This Cookbook is located in the underground region of Siofra River, a stunning subterranean area accessible only through specific well entrances. Getting there requires some progression, but the journey is well worth it for this recipe and the other treasures hidden below.

📖 Armorer's Cookbook [6]

Location: Siofra River, near the Worshipper's Woods Site of Grace

Coordinates: On a corpse near a wooden platform in the forested area

Recipe Unlocked: Exalted Flesh

Also Unlocks: Various fire/physical grease recipes if not already known

How to Reach Siofra River

Siofra River is one of Elden Ring's underground Eternal City regions, accessed through well-like elevators. There are two main entrances. For this Cookbook, use:

Step 1: Travel to the Third Church of Marika in East Limgrave (use the Gatefront Ruins grace and ride east if needed).

Step 2: Head slightly northeast to find the Siofra River Well — a stone tower with a lift inside. It is marked on the map once you have picked up the East Limgrave map fragment.

Step 3: Take the lift all the way down. You will emerge in Siofra River Bank.

Step 4: Rest at the Siofra River Bank Site of Grace immediately for fast travel.

Step 5: Ride east through the underground forest. The terrain is filled with ancient ruins and spectral enemies.

Step 6: Look for the Worshipper's Woods Site of Grace — it is a small grace hidden among the trees.

Step 7: From Worshipper's Woods, explore the nearby wooden platforms. The Cookbook is a glowing white item on a corpse near one of the raised walkways.

Siofra River Hazards

  • Ancestral Followers: Ghostly archers with extreme range. Their arrows hit hard — zigzag on Torrent or use cover.
  • Large Horned Beasts: Massive deer-like creatures that trample for heavy damage. They drop valuable crafting materials.
  • No fall damage in water: The glowing blue river is safe to fall into — use this for shortcuts.
  • Regal Ancestor Spirit: An optional boss in the area. You do not need to kill it to get the Cookbook.

🌿 Materials & Farm Locations

Each material for Exalted Flesh has a distinct acquisition curve. Arteria Leaf is your true bottleneck — it only grows in specific zones and has limited spawn points. Rowa Fruit you will gather passively, and Lump of Flesh comes from straightforward enemy farming.

🍃 Material 1: Arteria Leaf

🍃

Arteria Leaf ★ Target Farm Required

The Arteria Leaf is your Exalted Flesh bottleneck. This pale, luminous green plant only grows in the Altus Plateau and surrounding elevated regions. Each plant node gives exactly one leaf, and spawn points are limited — knowing the densest clusters saves enormous time.

Best Farm Locations

🥇 #1: Altus Plateau Roadside — Densest Cluster

From the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace, head north and west along both sides of the road. This area reliably holds 5–7 Arteria Leaf plants within a 2-minute ride — the densest cluster in the entire game. Ride on Torrent, collect all visible plants, rest at grace, repeat.

🥈 #2: Lux Ruins — Ruin Gardens

The gardens and ruin edges around Lux Ruins host 3–4 Arteria Leaf plants. Bonus: the ruins contain loot chests and Smithing Stone nodes. Clear the area, collect the leaves, and scoop up the extra resources.

🥉 #3: Mt. Gelmir Foothills — Late-Game Backup

The foothills of Mt. Gelmir have scattered Arteria Leaf spawns. Low density but viable if you are already in the volcano region for other quests.

Maximizing Arteria Leaf Farming

  • Use Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot (+Discovery) before a farming run — this can occasionally double your pickup yield.
  • Equip Silver Scarab talisman if available for another +75 Discovery.
  • Certain merchants in Altus Plateau sell Arteria Leaf for runes — check if you are flush with currency.
  • Plants respawn on grace rest — the farm is infinitely repeatable.

🍎 Material 2: Rowa Fruit

🍎

Rowa Fruit ★ Extremely Common

Refer to the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot guide for complete Rowa Fruit farming details. While farming Arteria Leaf in Altus Plateau, you will passively collect more than enough Rowa Fruit from bushes along the roads.

🥩 Material 3: Lump of Flesh

🥩

Lump of Flesh ★ Common (Enemy Drop)

The Lump of Flesh drops from large mammal enemies across the Lands Between — primarily bears, giant land crabs, and certain large beast-type foes. Drop rates range from approximately 25–40% depending on your Discovery stat. These enemies are found in nearly every outdoor zone, making this a farm-as-you-go material.

Best Lump of Flesh Farm Spots

🥇 #1: Limgrave Bears — Most Accessible

The forests of Limgrave, especially west of Agheel Lake, have multiple bear spawns. Each bear has roughly a 30–40% chance to drop 1–2 Lumps of Flesh. They are dangerous up close — use Torrent to hit-and-run, or pepper them with ranged attacks from horseback.

🥈 #2: Caelid Giant Crabs — High Volume

The swamps and coastlines of Caelid are crawling with giant crabs. They spawn in groups, respawn quickly, and have solid Lump of Flesh drop rates. Bonus: they also drop other crafting materials. Use fire damage — crabs are weak to it.

🥉 #3: Weeping Peninsula Trolls — Bonus Drops

Large beast enemies on the Weeping Peninsula also drop Lump of Flesh. Drop rates are less consistent than bears or crabs, but the peninsula is low-level friendly.

Lump of Flesh Farming Tips

  • Fighting bears on Torrent is the safest method — their turning radius is poor.
  • Higher Discovery stat directly improves drop rates — equip Discovery-boosting gear.
  • Nomadic merchants occasionally sell Lump of Flesh — buy if desperate.
  • Large enemies can drop 1–2 lumps — do not leave after the first drop.

⚠️ Gotcha Tips — What Can Go Wrong

Even a straightforward damage buff like Exalted Flesh has several gotchas that can trip up unprepared Tarnished. Here is the complete list of what can go wrong and how to avoid it.

🍃 Gotcha 1: Arteria Leaf Is the Bottleneck

You will accumulate excess Rowa Fruit and Lump of Flesh far faster than Arteria Leaf. The leaf is your limiting reagent. Always prioritize Arteria Leaf farming — when you have 10+ leaves, then check your other stockpiles.

⏱️ Gotcha 2: 60 Seconds Feels Short

Sixty seconds is generous for most early/mid-game bosses, but for multi-phase encounters like Radagon / Elden Beast, it may not cover the whole fight. Consider saving it for Phase 2 when the real DPS race begins.

💀 Gotcha 3: Death Wastes the Buff (and the Materials)

Because each craft yields only 1 Exalted Flesh, dying with the buff active is a significant material loss. For unfamiliar bosses, do a scouting run first — learn the moveset — then pop the buff on your serious attempt.

🔥 Gotcha 4: Only Physical Damage

Exalted Flesh only boosts physical damage. If you are using a split-damage weapon (fire-infused, magic-infused, or any ash that adds elemental damage), only the physical portion of your AR gets the 20% boost. Pure physical builds get the full benefit.

🐻 Gotcha 5: Bear Farming Is Dangerous

Bears are among the most dangerous regular enemies in Elden Ring. Their grab attack can one-shot medium-Vigor builds. Never fight bears on foot unless you are massively overleveled. Stay on Torrent, use hit-and-run tactics.

🛒 Gotcha 6: Limited Merchant Stock

Certain merchants stock Arteria Leaf, but their supply is limited (usually 3–5) and does not restock on standard NG cycles. Self-sufficiency through farming routes is essential for bulk crafting.

🎁 Free Benefits — What Else You Get Farming These Materials

The routes you travel to farm Exalted Flesh materials are rich with side opportunities. Here is what else you will collect along the way:

Farming Altus Plateau (Arteria Leaf)

  • Altus Bloom: Same zone — these flowers are needed for Uplifting Aromatic, Bloodboil Aromatic, and Ironjar Aromatic. Grab every bloom you see.
  • Smithing Stones [3] & [4]: Mining tunnels in Altus hold upgrade stones for mid-game weapon reinforcement.
  • Golden Seeds: Churches in Altus hold Flask upgrade seeds.
  • Altus Plateau Map Fragment: If you have not grabbed it, the map stele is on the main road.
  • Miranda Powder: From the flower enemies — needed for Ironjar Aromatic.

Farming Limgrave Bears (Lump of Flesh)

  • Four-Toed Fowl Foot: The same forest routes pass near coastal cliffs where you can farm Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot materials.
  • Beast Blood: Bears occasionally drop this — used for blood-themed crafting.
  • Bone: From beast enemies — used for arrow crafting.
  • Smoldering Butterfly: Forest zones are rich with this common crafting material.

Exploring Siofra River (Cookbook Route)

  • Ghost Gloveworts: Spirit ash upgrade materials found throughout Siofra River.
  • Ancestral Follower Ashes: A solid spirit ash summon found in the area.
  • Smithing Stones [3]–[5]: The underground zones are rich with upgrade materials.
  • Regal Ancestor Spirit boss: Optional but rewarding — drops a unique weapon and significant runes.

Long-Term Strategic Value

Mastering Exalted Flesh crafting does more than give you a powerful damage consumable — it teaches you the layout and farming rhythms of Altus Plateau, which happens to be the primary source zone for nearly all Perfumer's Cookbook materials. When you learn to efficiently farm Arteria Leaf in Altus, you are simultaneously preparing the ground for crafting Uplifting Aromatic, Bloodboil Aromatic, and Ironjar Aromatic. The knowledge compounds, and your crafting repertoire expands with every farming run.

Furthermore, the Siofra River exploration experience is equally valuable. This stunning underground region hides abundant Smithing Stones, Ghost Gloveworts for spirit ash upgrades, and unique items you cannot find anywhere else. When you venture into Siofra for Armorer's Cookbook [6], you are effectively stockpiling resources for the entire mid-to-late game. And once you have mastered navigating underground zones, transitioning to Nokstella, Deeproot Depths, and Mohgwyn Palace feels like second nature. The Exalted Flesh recipe is not just a consumable unlock — it is a gateway to the underworld.
